A Ghanaian minister has warned technology from outside Africa is gradually threatening businesses on the continent, with the situation needing to be corrected “in the larger interest of mankind”.
Speaking yesterday at the 16th Coordinating Council Meeting of the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS), in Accra, Joe Oteng-Adjei, minister for environment, science, technology and innovations, said the government would continue to pursue its Better Ghana Agenda and distribute free laptops.
He said: “I would like to emphasise the need for centres of excellence of COMSATS to put in more effort not only for the sustainable development of the South, but also be a key focus of international cooperation in the larger interest of mankind.”
HumanIPO reported earlier this month Airtel Ghana had upset local companies by cancelling contracts and moving to use international suppliers.
Oteng-Adjei added science had been used throughout history by civilisations to achieve progress and for any country to improve quality of life it must put science, technology and innovation at the centre of its economic plans.
