Safaricom and KQ partnership allows customers to buy flights with Bonga

Safaricom has partnered with Kenya Airways (KQ) to allow customers to buy tickets to local destinations through Bonga Points, the telecom’s loyalty scheme.

Customers can redeem single air tickets for as low as 28,000 Bonga Points, or 40,000 for a return ticket.

“This relationship of like-minded organisations demonstrates our collective desire to ensure that we give our customers the best experience through our unparalleled offerings,” said Safaricom chief executive officer (CEO) Bob Collymore.

“As we speak, there are over 9.5 billion Bonga Points on our system and we believe that our customers will be keen to start utilising them by taking advantage of the new proposition when making local flights on KQ.”

Collymore also said the organisations were partnering in other areas, with one such partnership to enable customers to buy a flight ticket through M-Pesa.

KQ managing director Dr Titus Naikuni said the airline is at the forefront of using mobile and ICT technology to enhance the customer experience.

“We not only focus on offering excellent inflight experience for our customers, we focus on making the entire end-to-end journey right from the purchase of the tickets to the handling at destination airports is pleasant,” he said.

Safaricom’s Bonga Points Loyalty programme was launched six years ago, with customers earning one Bonga Point for every KSh10 spent on data, SMS or voice calls.

To buy the tickets, subscribers have to book their ticket, get a reference number, dial *126*2# on their Safaricom line and select the “Kenya Airways” tickets. They will then be asked to enter the reference number to complete the transaction.

‘Fly With Bonga Points’ beneficiaries can choose between destinations including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Eldoret and Malindi.
