South African IT solutions giant Dimension Data is reported to have tabled a bid of more than KSh3 billion (US$36 million) for Kenyan IT firm AccessKenya as it looks to expand across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Reuters is reporting AccessKenya has requested trading of its shares be suspended since the offer, which is the first for a Nairboi listed firm since the March presidential election, was made.
Dimension Data is owned by Japanese Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp, but has been looking to expand its operations in Kenya.
It already operates in the East African country through Internet Solutions, but with AccessKenya will get Nairobi’s and Mombasa’s wireless networks, plus coverage 10 towns.
AccessKenya is thought to have around 5,000 corporate clients in the country.
