According to a recent survey conducted by Alexa, First National Bank’s (FNB) website was the only bank in the top 10 most popular African online destinations.
The other top nine websites are national or regional based news sites and FNB believes achieving a spot in the top 10 is a remarkable achievement.
“We have over 2.8 million unique visitors to our website each month. This indicates that a very large number of non-FNB customers visit our site for information. We have 1.3 million online banking customers,” said Lee-Anne van Zyl, chief executive officer (CEO) of FNB Online.
Despite the current incarnation proving popular Van Zyl said they would launch a revamped site in July.
She added: “Post login, FNB customers will find detailed financial information and much wider transactional ability.”
The top five websites include: Nairaland, News24, Bidorbuy, Almasry AIYoum and FNB respectively.
FNB is working towards introducing a level of online functionality, which will allow customers to conduct their banking business through digital channels without the need to visit a branch and interact with staff.
FNB already offers a range of online services, which were previously only accessible through physical branches.
These services include changing login details, setting ATM limits, and the ability to open and switch bank accounts.
“We carefully balance online user friendliness with security. FNB adopts a multi-layered approach to security and further offers its customers free anti-phishing and anti-malware software.”
“We operate a range of behind-the-scenes monitoring software to create automatic alerts and these are actioned by our online security team,” said van Zyl.
Van Zyl concluded: “In future, digital banking will become increasingly textured with intuitive ease of operation. Online banking customers have expectations that will continually evolve.”
