SkyDrive hits 250 million users

Microsoft’s SkyDrive has announced it has reached the 250 million users milestone, up by 50 million, since Windows 8 launched in October last year.

The announcement comes weeks after a number of upgrades and integration of products by Microsoft.

Microsoft, for example, announced it had extended validation certificates integrated on SkyDrive.com for its 700 million users, another milestone for the company.

SkyDrive competes with the likes of Google Drive and Dropbox.

The company said the increased security feature would provide a more secure SSL connection as it completed support for DMARC, that would make it hard for hackers to drop phishing mail to users inbox.

Microsoft in April said its accounts would become more secure following a major upgrade for products ranging from Windows PC, Windows Phone, Xbox to Outlook.com, from SkyDrive and Skype to Office.

Outlook.com on its part also announced they are rolling out a new feature allowing its 400 million users to insert anything from their SkyDrive directly into an email message.

“When you’re sending an email message, you can select files from your SkyDrive and we’ll automatically turn those into the right thumbnails with links that have the right permissions tied to people that receive the email,” Dick Craddock from the Hotmail program management team wrote on the Outlook blog.
