Zubair Abubakar, founder of mobile app developers Pledge51, has announced the company’s latest innovation Chop Up after experiencing success with its mobile game.
Speaking this morning at Mobile Web West Africa 2013, in Lagos, Abubakar said Chop Up is a mobile social gaming network that will be officially launched later this month.
He said the mobile gaming site currently has only one game, Danfo Reloaded, a 2D game that was created around the dangerous driving styles of popular danfo (yellow bus) drivers in Lagos.
“Players pick up passengers and earn money as they do so,” he said.
When the game was first put online, he said it generated a lot of discussions online and was supported by Nokia with a NGN100,000 (US$634) prize for the two top players.
“The resulting massive conversations on social media especially Twitter prompted us to create Chop Up,” he said.
He stated that Chop Up is entirely mobile and designed for feature phones. He however hinted that other platforms may be added in the nearest future.
