Kenya’s APA taps into mobile phone services

APA Insurance in conjunction with Rapid Communications and AAR Credit Services has launched a mobile-based service dubbed ‘APA Kopa Bima’, allowing customers to make premium payments in monthly installments.

The annual premium is as low as KSh600 (US$7) per year, so as to make it affordable to majority of the Kenyan population.

Speaking during the launch, Apollo Group chief executive officer (CEO) Ashok Shah said: “We are constantly looking to utilise new technology as a means to increase penetration and accessibility of insurance services not only in Kenya, but in the entire East African region.”

Premium payments can be via the mobile money transfer on M-Pesa and Airtel Money.

Once subscribers dial *695#, on both Safaricom and Airtel networks, they will follow a process that provides product information, registration process and claims notifications.

APA Kopa Bima is specially designed to provide a wide range of benefits that will include death or permanent total disability of KSh100,000 (US$1,200) and hospitalisation and funeral expenses at a maximum value of KSh20,000 (US$240).
