A miniature camera imitating the view of an insect has been developed at the University of Illinois for higher technical solutions in various fields.
Mimicking the bulging eyes of insects, the coin-sized camera provides insight in the viewing span of creatures such as bees and flies.
The 180-strong micro-lens device provides panoramic, multi-depth perspective with simultaneous view ability as developed on represent compound vision.
Through these special sight abilities, bugs are able escape dangers such as human killing-intentions.
John Rogers, professor of material science and chemistry at the Urbana-Campaign, said the invention was motivated by his childhood interest in insect eyes.
As created by Rogers and his research team, the mini-camera will be useful for implementation in security cameras and surgical endoscopes as examples of its wide applicability.
