Buycott enables ethical shopping

Recently launched smartphone app Buycott has reached the top ten list of most downloaded apps worldwide, offering cause-based shopping through its campaign and source-exposure features.

Available in both the Apple iStore and Google Play, the app exposes sale items through barcode scanning.

Apart from revealing suspicious product details such as animal cruelty and sweatshop manufacture, the app also flags lineage products with a boycott option.

HumanIPO reported last month on the case against blindfolded shopping through social media as promoted by South African social media company Sustain Our Africa (SOA).

Buycott is “a tool that lets you organise your consumer spending to help causes that you care for, and to oppose those that you don’t”, the app enterprise stated.

Furthermore, the app features campaigns with topics such as anti-abortion and local craft-beer support.

Foundshopping, a South African-developed bargain hunting app, allows shoppers to share good offers through on iOS platform.
