Kenya to host first African Open Governance Partnership event

Kenya will next week host the first African regional meeting of the Open Government Partnership (OGP), to create a framework for open data and transparent governance in Africa.

The meeting will be held on May 29-30 the Serena Beach Hotel, Mombasa.

The OGP was initially formed by eight countries – Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Norway, Philippines, South Africa, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States (US). Kenya joined in 2010.

“Kenya was invited to join OGP in 2010 following its fast progress in adopting ICT topromote increase transparency and accountability in government as well as increase public service delivery to citizens,” said Gladwell Otieno, executive director, AFRICOG.

“The conference is expected to address challenges in regards to government openness, responsiveness and accountability.”

Ghana, Liberia, South Africa, Tanzania, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Uganda are among the countries that have confirmed their participation at the Kenyan meeting.
