Rwandan farmers will benefit from online marketing after the launch of the Rwanda East Africa Exchange (EAX).
The new programme will give farmers access to fund to enable them to expand their businesses, according to Business Weekly.
Rwanda EAX chief executive officer (CEO) Paul Kukubo, until recently CEO of the Kenya ICT Board, said during the launch of the exchange in Kigali that with the new online marketing strategy, farmers will have opportunity to market their produce in a competitive manner as well as gain access to finances.
“We want to enable farmers to sell their products at a fair and competitive price and facilitate access to financing opportunities,” he said. “The idea is that this will bring together all buyers and sellers to a transparent market place like this, then the best price emerges.”
According to him, information is power, and without it farmers would find it difficult to trade.
“Where aggregation benefits a farmer, you find that those products find a good home in an exchange like this one,” he said.
Business Weekly reports EAX will provide avenues to access various products and market agriculture online, helping farmers to widen their trade geographically.
Rwanda President Paul Kagame launched the exchange in January this year at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland.
