Convicted drug smuggler approved laptop in prison

Frank Nabolisa, a Nigerian national and convicted drug smuggler, has been granted permission by the South Gauteng High Court to have a laptop in prison.

The New Age reported Judge Cathy Satchwell had ruled in favour of Nabolisa’s application to have a laptop in prison after having reviewed written arguments in an application against four department officials and the minister of correctional services.

Nabolisa said in his application he wanted the right for a laptop in prison to study. His application also requested he be upgraded to a Group-A classified from Group-B. Satchwell did not grant the latter request.

“We are happy that this matter is resolved and that justice has been served,” said Godfrey Ezenwa, Nabolisa’s lawyer.

Nabolisa, together with Sheryl Cwele, wife of Siyabonga Cwele, minister of state security in South Africa, was charged for drug offenses. The initial sentences were 12 years in prison, however, their sentences were changed to 20 years following an appeal.
