Zimbabwe is executing a project under a Global Fund grant to use modern technology to transfer health information, providing internet connections to 82 sites.
The chosen sites are in both urban and rural areas, with the new technology to enhance collection of health data and provide faster delivery of information right from district level to national.
Data collected will also assist in planning, executing and maintaining up to date information record on health.
According to Marcela Rojo, spokesperson for the Global Fund, the provided funds will help receivers to create modern technological avenues of gathering information.
“Across Africa, health information systems require strengthening to enhance monitoring of disease trends,” Rojo said. “To maximize the quality of data and the reliability of results, the Global Fund and partners are addressing common weaknesses in in-country data management and health information systems.”
The project came as a result of poor communication infrastructure in the region which slows information from reaching national level for further assessment due to lack of internet connectivity.
