The Connected Kenya conference is set to officially kick off tomorrow, with the Kenya ICT Board updating delegates on developments on the National ICT Master Plan.
The government will use the first session to explain various projects, with Lands permanent secretary Dorothy Angote and governors from Machakos, Mombasa, Bungoma and Nairobi also participating in what is being described as a government plenary.
Bitange Ndemo, new ICT cabinet secretary Fred Matiangi and Devolution and Planning cabinet secretary Anne Waiguru will discuss national priorities.
Other presentations will include a focus on cities of the future by Nairobi deputy governor Jonathan Mueke, data as a national and county resource by the ICT Board and ICT infrastructure’s role in development by Dr Katherine Getao.
“This year’s ICT theme, “The County Citizen. Served”, offers great scope and insights on the role that ICT should play in the counties. Citizens desire fast and accessible services as the counties look into ways of ensuring their people’s needs are addressed promptly most times with limited resources, the only way to achieve this is through technology,” reads a statement from the chairperson of the Kenya ICT Board, Catherine Ngahu.
Notably this will be the last time Kenya ICT Board chief executive officer (CEO) Paul Kukubo will be attending the conference in his current capacity, as he exits the organisation next month after six years.
Among companies participating in the conference are Google, Oracle, Microsoft, Dimension Data, Orange, SAP, T-Systems and Business Connexion.
