Mulago Hospital in Uganda has set up two electronic display boards worth USh19 million (US$7,300) to monitor thieves and medical practitioners.
The boards, installed in the Accidents and Emergency (A&E) and Labour wards, are intended to catch out fraudulent practitioners and intruders, reports The Observer.
Enock Kusasira, the hospital’s publicist, said the boards are also designed to tackle cases of missing babies in the hospital.
“Every woman who delivers from Ward 5C will automatically be registered from the time she comes till she leaves and the boards would display the names of practitioners on duty for easy identification,” Kusasira said.
The boards will also display announcements of events taking place within the hospital, as well as health information in Luganda, English and Kiswahili.
They will show the names of all medical practitioners on duty, seeking to prevent patients from being attended to by unregistered figures. The hospital is also planning to introduce digital birth and death registration in future in order to promote service delivery.
