Airtel has launched a 3.75G network in Burkina Faso, saying it plans to build the biggest 3G network in Africa.
The launch of the network came after Airtel was awarded a 3G licence by the country’s government.
Abdourrahmane Diallo, Airtel marketing director, said: “The capacity… will allow our subscribers and users to make video calls, watch live TV, to send and receive emails and download music on devices running Internet and equipped with 3G technology.”
“3G technology will give our customers the opportunity to interact with cellular technology in a different way,” Airtel Africa Francophone Region chief executive officer (CEO) Tiemoko Coulibaly said in a statement.
Hervé Njapoum-Olivier, the CEO of Airtel Burkina Faso, thinks the 3.75G network will bring out the youth’s potential by allowing quick access to internet for learning, sharing and social networking.
Ericsson is providing the infrastructure and high level solutions to Airtel for the 3G services.
