Sony Xperia released in SA

Sony Mobile’s Xperia tablet Z has been launched in South Africa as the follow-up to the Sony Mobile Xperia Z smartphone.

Despite its enhanced hardware features, the focus of the launch is on the user experience.

Available for between ZAR6,400 (US$664) and ZAR9,000 (US$934), the device comes with 16GB of memory.

Tablet Z contains similar technology as its smartphone predecessor, including an image quality improvement engine called Sony Mobile Bravia.

HumanIPO reported in March on the launch of the Xperia Z smartphone in Kenya.

Imaging and video recording quality of the tablet is high with an eight megapixel main camera, two megapixel video camera and four built-in speakers.

According to Andrew Fraser, the tablet aims to be an entertainment device.

Multimedia material sharing is enabled by Near Field Communication (NFC) connection adaptability.

Fraser explained: “Built into it is a multi-brand remote control so you can control all of your devices directly from the unit.”

Furthermore, the tablet also features water resistance to one metre for 30 minutes and operates on Android.

Sony introduced the world’s thinnest water resistant tablet in January this year with the release of the Xperia S.
