The African Virtual University (AVU) has held a computer science and teacher education curriculum workshop, reviewing continent-wide mathematics and science teacher education and developing a new applied science computer programme.
“While there is so much optimism surrounding Africa’s growth potential, the continent appears to be lagging behind in training the necessary human resources to match its rosy economic growth prospects,” Bakary Diallo, rector of the AVU, said.
He added this was the time to make use of ICTs as an integral part of Africa’s teaching and learning approach in order to attain the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) and education for all.
“That’s why the AVU and the African Development Bank are working together to increase enrolment in tertiary education through Open Distance and e-learning,” he concluded.
