Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) Rwanda has partnered with the Ministry of Youth and ICT to deliver empowerment and entrepreneurship programmes through their Youth Empowerment for Global Opportunity (YEGO) centres.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed on Monday and will make use of the YEGO centres, which are equipped with ICT facilities and can often be used free of charge.
DOT’s president Janet Longmore said: “Our key focus is to ensure that we engage youth. We train them with appropriate digital skills and entrepreneurship and employability skills and ready to empower them with a mind shift to that is there positive opportunities to create more jobs.”
DOT has been at the forefront of empowering young people since 2010 through its economic programmes and 30,000 young people have already been trained with technology and entrepreneurship skills.
Also present was the country’s minister for youth and ICT, Jean Philbert Nsengimana, who said: “What we wish is that through this partnership we can see the work of DOT Rwanda and DOT World going on next level, let’s be ambitious, let’s target big numbers, let’s understand that the demand is much higher than what we currently are able to offer but let’s really work together but I believe it’s possible to achieve it.”
Through the programme, DOT Rwanda will now train young people and women from the communities who will then benefit from the YEGOs Employability services.
