France Telecom is formally to be renamed Orange as of July 1, the company decided at its Annual Shareholders’ Meeting yesterday.
In order to consolidate “visual identity” across domestic and international operations spanning 37 countries, France Telecom has decided to officially change the name of the company and its shares to Orange, in what the company says is “a natural step in the process towards the simplification and unity of the Group’s activities”.
The company has been working towards a unified brand across its various commercial operations since 2006, and has now decided to complete the transition to the Orange brand which will cover fixed line, mobile, internet and television offerings, as well as its corporate activities.
As of July, the company will be named Orange, as will the shares which will carry the ticker symbol ORA.
“Under the Orange name, the Group will build on its heritage and continue to ensure stronger social cohesion, improved technical performance and faster growth in France and around the world,” the company promised.
