GoMetro launches in Eastern Cape

The mobile version of the South African GoMetro platform has launched in order to provide digital services to its 40,000 commuters, Metrorail Eastern Cape announced today.

Aimed at rail passengers in East London and Port Elizabeth, service line updates are now also available in the Eastern Cape, following releases in Gauteng and the Western Cape since 2012.

Justin Coetzee, founder of GoMetro, said: “After implementing the system in the Western Cape and Gauteng, we are very excited about bringing this essential service to the commuters of the Eastern Cape.”

Updated train schedules, live line announcements and fare information is made accessible through the mobi site.

Coetzee described the service as “real-time public transport information that puts the commuter directly in touch with Metrorail’s Control Centre operators.”

The service operates on both smartphones and feature phones.

“In line with Metrorail’s vision of teamwork and working with their customers, commuters are encouraged to provide feedback on the service via the feedback channel on the site, to improve the customer experience,” the company stated.

HumanIPO reported last year on iRoko’s partnership with Metrorail to provide free content to commuters.
