Small and medium sized enterprise (SME) software creator Olivine has won the annual Connected Kenya Innovation Awards.
The company hit headlines this year after it automated the way churches collected tithes and beat a host of competitors including Technobrain, Web Tribe and Digital Divide Data, who scooped awards in their various categories.
Apart from the overall award, Olivine Technology also scooped the award for innovation in wholesale and retail, as a result of its Automated Sales Inventory Manager – ASiM – which has gained popularity with SMEs with multiple locations.
Category sponsors Google Kenya had earlier said the award would be in recognition of businesses that have utilised technology to maximise their output.
“What we expect from sponsoring the Innovation Awards is to see people showcase the innovative ways they are using technology to run business, in education, for entertainment and in their daily activities,” Joe Mucheru, from Google East Africa, said.
Other winners of various awards include Kisasa, which won the special stream county focus, Kenya Buzz, recognised in the innovation in tourism category and Youth Agro environment initiative which won the agriculture category.
Digital Divide Data Kenya carried two awards including the business process outsourcing category and education and training.
Other ICT companies that bagged awards included Web Tribe, Iridian Interactive, Technobrain and Duma works which bagged the social equity and poverty reduction.
Last year Vision 2030 bagged the overall award.
