MTN has urged its Nigerian subscribers to confirm their SIM registration as the regulator’s 18-month grace period nears its end, meaning unregistered lines will be disconnected on June 30.
Wale Goodluck, executive of corporate services at MTN Nigeria, said the operator is in the process of verifying the data given by subscribers during the SIM registration enforced by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
“Even though the vast majority of MTN subscribers have since complied with the NCC directive to register their SIMs, we feel an obligation to crosscheck all subscriber information. This is because the NCC has made it clear that all unregistered SIMs or those with incomplete information will be disconnected by 30th June,” Goodluck said.
To ascertain the registration status of their lines, he said MTN subscribers must send the word ‘REG’ to 746.
“In ensuring that customers meet the NCC deadline, and to forestall any inadvertent disconnection, our call centre agents will also call subscribers to verify information. If need be, customers will be referred to the nearest MTN centre to complete their registration,” he said.
He pointed out that the directive is for all SIM cards including phone lines and those used on data-enabled devices such as internet modems, iPads and tablet devices.
