Microsoft has set up 15 digital hubs in Nigerian schools to assist the government in giving young people greater access to ICT.
Speaking at the inauguration of a digital hub in a secondary school in Lagos, Ugochukwu Nwosu, citizenship and partners in learning manager at Microsoft Nigeria, said more digital hubs will be inaugurated this year across Nigeria in partnership with the British Council.
David Higgs, country director at the British Council Nigeria, said students in the respective schools will be able to use the digital hub to make contacts and partner with foreign students on educational projects.
He noted the project, which is in operation in five other countries, is already yielding good results.
Higgs said: “It is very clear that we cannot do our activities without using information technology. After school, the students will need the knowledge of IT to get jobs. They need to be employable; hence, the need for the setting up of the digital hubs across the country.”
Omolara Erogbogbo, permanent secretary at the Lagos state Ministry of Education, said the state government is committed to ICT education in its schools.
This, she said, is in line with its goal of keeping the institutions on the same pedestal with global technological advancements.
She advised students in the benefitting institutions to maximise the facility for positive use.
