The case brought by six Ghanaians against the government’s decision to sell off 70 per cent of Ghana Telecom to Vodafone in 2008 has been adjourned until June 17.
The case, heard at the Accra Fast Track High Court yesterday (Monday), was delayed because of the absence of Joe Ghartey, second deputy speaker of parliament, who was Ghana’s attorney general and justice minister at the time of the sale.
Ghartey will now be given an official notice asking to appear at court on June 17.
The case was brought before the court in October 2008 by members of the Convention People’s Party – Agyemang Badu Akosa, Michael Kosi Dedey, Nii Moi Thompson, Naa Kordai Assimeh, Rhodaline Imoru Ayarna and Kwame Jantuah.
They want the court to declare due process was not followed in reaching the agreement and annul the sale, believing it went against the public interest to transfer the assets to Vodafone.
They stated the expected level of circumspection concerning public properties was not exercised by the three ministers of state that signed on behalf of the government on the deal.
