The East African Communication Organization (EACO) is set to meet in Nairobi for a congress and exhibition from June 24-26, 2013, at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC).
Delegates from both the private and public sectors as well as non-government organisations in the East African Community (EAC) will take part in the summit.
The meeting will carry the theme ‘Making broadband work for social economic growth in Africa’ and bring together broadcasters, regulators and stakeholders in the postal and telecommunications sectors, with EACO regarded as the region’s highest decision making organ.
The exhibition will provide a platform to showcase the socio-economic benefits that the sector presents to citizens in the region as well as provide a place for stakeholders to meet and create networks.
The Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) will partner with the EACO to host the event.
Key mandates of the EACO are network development and regional inter-connectivity, harmonisation of tariff structures and settlement of accounts, security of broadcasting, postal and telecommunication/ICT networks and policy advice on issues relating to the communications sector.
Delegates are also expected to discuss how to promote the development of ICT, human resource development and how to harmonise the digital migration process in the five member countries to ensure all meet the 2015 deadline.
EACO was created to strengthen and promote cooperation in the development and provision of postal, telecommunications and broadcasting services in the EAC and is hosted by Rwanda under the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA).
