Nigerian banking platform upgrade to disrupt customers

First Bank Nigeria will be closing its branches across Nigeria by midday on Thursday (tomorrow) until 8am on Monday, June 10, in order to carry essential upgrades to its platform.

During the shutdown customers will not be able to carry out counter services, but ATMs will be available until 5pm on Sunday when it will become unavailable until 6am on Monday, with the same availability for online banking.

Mobile money service FirstMonie will not be affected throughout the period of service disruption.

It said customers can “send money to phone from phone, send money from ATM to phone, withdraw money from agent and ATM, make purchase from agents registered with FirstMonie,” in addition to other value added services such as wallet balance check and change of PIN.

Services that will not be available are point of sale (POS) transactions, transaction alerts, card services via Quick Teller and the web, and all transactions that will impact on the banking platform such as settlements and inter bank (RIGS, NEFT, FIP) inflows.

“Please note that from 5pm on Sunday June 9, all alternative channels will not be available for use. All services will be restored by Monday, June 10. Branches will open as usual by 8am on Monday, June 10,” First Bank stated.
