Ghana to obtain ICT incubation centres

Ghana could be set to benefit from a host of ICT incubation centres after a partnership was signed between Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) and the Jospong Group of Companies.

It is believed to be the first time a university in the country has joined forces with a private company to establish such facilities, with graduates expected to gain office space, capital and resources which could be used to grow startups.

The incubators will focus on ICT, mobile applications and nano-technology, among others, reported Ghana News Agency.

Dr Osei Darkwa, president of GTUC, said he hoped the centre would help promote and allow innovations and creativity in students asked the question why after 56 years of independence, Ghana had still not found solutions to challenges such as clean drinking water, illiteracy and access to jobs.

Emmanuel Boate, chief operating officer of Jospon Group of Companies, said Ghana’s evolving economy needed professionals which had market-driven skills and practical experience and the future centre would be able to provide the relevant training.
