Imara Mobile introduces payment solution for cashless transactions

A new mobile payment solution is aiming to allow users to conduct business at certain points and boost cashless transactions in Uganda.

The card-based mobile payment solution, an Imara Mobile product, can buy goods at supermarkets, fuel stations, restaurants and hospitals reports Daily Monitor.

Buyers who want to transact using the solution need to tap the Imara Mobile wallet card on the point of sale (POS), which will start the transaction and send the user a message from their mobile money service provider requesting them to key in the password or PIN to authorise the transaction.

Albert Aguta, speaking in Kampala, said quite a number of people are yet to embrace the culture of buying through mobile money accounts and instead prefer to just send and receive money with them.

“We want to promote a culture of cashless transactions in the country because of the convenience it comes with,” he said.

The mobile money solution will officially start working in Kampala in the next two months.

Mobile money services were introduced in Uganda in 2009.
