Rlg to launch ICT plant in Gambia

Ghanaian computer and mobile phone assembling enterprise Rlg Communications will open its first ICT Assembly Plant in Gambia today (Saturday), marking the start of its commercial business in the country.

The modernised plant is equipped with a showroom, training centres, sale and repair facilities, as well as two assembly lines.

Production of 500 mobiles and 200 laptops can be produced daily at the plant.

Rlg will train 30 young students in ICT with its Youth in ICT programme, supported by the national government.

Focusing on entrepreneurship, the course aims to solve the unemployment issue in the country with ICT training.

Youth in ICT graduates will be awarded their qualifications at a ceremony attended by Gambian officials, delegations from the neighbouring countries and United Nations (UN) officials, among others.

The Rlg Assembly Plant and Showroom will also serve as an entry point into Sierra Leone, Senegal and Liberia.

The second facility in West Africa, a third is planned for Nigeria in Osun.

Operating since 2009 in Gambia, Rlg’s gadgets have been particularly favoured by Gambians residing in the capital Banjul.

The company has made investments of more than US$7 million in the local Gambian economy and is also viewed by the government as a big role player in contributing with social services.
