The BlackBerry Scholars Program has opened global applications for South African female scholars with the goal of encouraging more gender equality in Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
Offering full, global bursaries to South African women who enrol for STEM courses, the opportunity is open until June 26.
Outstanding female scholars who have applied for STEM-related courses with a particular interest in mobile computing will be favoured for selection.
Other criteria include academic merit and a passionate drive to enter the mobile computing industry.
Full year course provision sponsored by BlackBerry, as well as mentorship and professional opportunities will be provided to the ten selected scholars as from worldwide submitted applications.
“We’d love to see some young South African women among them,” the mobile company said.
A panel of successful female role models in the industry under the leadership of Alicia Keys, global creative director at BlackBerry, will select scholars.
The BlackBerry Scholars Program is the mobile company’s first step towards the inspiration of female careers in the STEM industry.
Keys started the programme in May with the purpose to accelerate women’s success in the dynamic technology industry.
