A research group has predicted broadband penetration will increase by around 50 per cent to 940 million over the next five years.
Point Topic highlights growth will be boosted primarily by the Asia-Pacific region where numbers are predicted to increase by 70 per cent with hopes particularly strong for Indonesia and Thailand.
The figure of 940 million is expected to be reached by 940 million by 2018, with the one billion mark surpassed by the end of the decade.
Point Topic believe South and South and East Asia will have the highest volume of broadband subscribers with 340 million by 2018, with 150 million in Western Europe the next largest market.
