Rwanda-based ICT development project Data Innovation Centre (DIC) has announced its plans to expand with six more centres to promote digital training in the community.
The DIC supplies ICT services and training to fill the gap of digital skills in the Rwandan society.
Founder Dominique Nitrushwa said the project was initially started to provide orphans with free training, supported by business centre operations.
Nitushwa plans to turn five of the new centres into full time training locations to increase training up to 200 people per month.
Furthermore free online computer training is also under development to begin in 2014.
More than 50 children from the Gisimba Orphanage has benefitted from the programme.
MTN South Africa has donated US$40,000 towards the project.
However, the centre is still in need of more funds to keep up with the high capacity demands.
Centres in Muzanse, Rubayu, Rusizi and Rwamagna have trained 1,000 people.
New centres to be opened by September will be located in Gasabo, Huye, Karongi, Muhanga, Nyagatare and Nyanza.
The project recently won second place in the Best Telecentre Network category as part of the Global Telecentre Awards (GTA).
GTA awards were announced at the Fourth Global Forum on Telecentre in Granada, Spain in May.
