President Yahya Jammeh of the Gambia Republic has stressed the importance of ICT to national development and said it is one of his priorities.
In a message sent to the official commissioning event of Rlg’s multimillion dollar mobile phone and laptop assembly plant, Jammeh said no nation in the current age can record meaningful development without opening its arms to ICT.
According to the president, the West African country will continue to give ICT the utmost priority by committing more resources to the transformation of Gambia’s human capital and infrastructural development.
He added the government is creating an enabling environment for ICT to play its role in development.
He noted the government’s declaration of 2012 as the Year of Science, Technology and Innovation, shows the government is strongly committed to increasing ICT consciousness.
Jammeh’s message was delivered by Aja Isatou Njie-Saidy, Gambia’s vice president and women affairs minister, who commended Rlg Communications Gambia for the landmark project.
“Today is historic in our ICT sector because this plant comes with immense opportunities and potentials,” Njie-Saidy said.
