Absa app reaches ZAR1bn

Absa’s payment app has reached ZAR1 billion (US$98.7 million) in transactions, making it one of the most popular apps in South Africa.

Within less than two months of its release, 100,000 downloads have contributed to the growing financial success.

HumanIPO reported last week on the launch of Absa’s mobile cash rewards.

Arrie Rautenbach, head of retail banking at Absa, said: “The value of the transactions on our app is an indication that our customers have embraced it as a solution to perform their banking on-the-go.”

Proud of its achievement, the company feels the app provides the solution to customers’ need for cross platform digital experience.

Absa deems its Android and Apple smartphone and tablet market presence as part of its “unique capabilities” for simplifying clients’ lives, Rautenbach said.

Available to both business and retail customers, the Absa app is the first native financial service for smartphones and tablets, according to the bank.

According to Rautenbach, regular improvements are in the pipeline to keep up with technology, increasing user accessibility and control.

“The payments landscape continues to transform the banking industry, I am convinced we are only at the beginning and the future will be extraordinary,” Rautenbach said.
