Owners of YouVersion, the Bible app, have launched a campaign to reach 100 million installs before the app’s fifth anniversary on July 15.
Announcing the campaign via a webcast, Bobby Gruenewald, co-founder of YouVersion, said the idea he got while in the security line at an American airport has become globally embraced by tens of millions of people across the world.
He added the app that started with the launch on the Apple apps store has grown to become available on all major devices. He also noted the roles played by partners that cut across Christian societies, religious organisations and publishers.
“We see YouVersion as a tool that is helping all that is interested in God’s word do that,” Gruenewald said.
“Every second,1.3 people install the app on their new devices, 75 people open the app, 113 people are changing and loading new chapters of text on their screen, 34 people are having the Bible read to them via the audio stream.
“In the same second, nine people are making highlights, three people are making bookmarks, three people are sharing the Bible passage or verses via Facebook, Twitter, SMS or email. There is a total of 66,000 people that have the app opened in an average second.” he said.
Terry Storch, the co-founder of YouVersion, said each of the installs represents an opportunity to change lives and encouraged the YouVersion community to rally behind it to achieve the goal.
Storch added: “Each one of those new installs represents the opportunity for a changed life. We’d love to see that happen before the Bible App’s fifth anniversary on July 10, but we can only do it together, as the YouVersion community.”
The app now features a “100 Million Countdown” so users can monitor how close the app is to reaching its target.
