Access Bank has donated 10 computers worth over TZS6 million (US$3,600) to Mugabe Secondary School in Dar es Salaam as it continues its policy of providing ICT resources to Tanzanian schools.

According to the bank’s marketing officer Sijaona Simon, the decision to provide computers was a strategy to improve learning in ward secondary schools, considering most do not have computers, reports the Daily News.

The bank, which was established to support small entrepreneurs who had no access to financial institutions, has already donated computers to King’ong’o (Kimara), Tuangoma (Kigamboni) and Mugabe Secondary Schools, according to Simon’s speech while addressing the audience during the handing over ceremony.

“These computers will ease teachers’ works as we’ve found out that in some schools even headmasters have no computers at all. We’ve decided in this era of ICT to give back our profits to our society, we want a student to graduate Form IV when she/he is computer literate,” he said.

The school’s headmistress Ms Ng’wigulu was very happy with the donation saying it will enable them come up with computer classes to provide ICT education.

“The board of the school thanks Access Bank for this assistance and we ask the bank not to get tired of helping us as we face a lot of challenges, including shortage of classrooms and lack of fence/wall as we’ve been surrounded by bars in every corner,” Ms Ng’wigulu said.
