Facebook are expected to reveal a video feature for Instagram on Thursday, in a bid to compete with rival Twitter’s Vine application.
Facebook has invited media outlets to its California headquarters, saying “a small team has been working on a big idea”, with a new product promised.
TechCrunch cites an unnamed source saying Facebook is planning to add the ability to release short videos on Instagram.
The new features will let users capture and share short videos as well as pictures, similar to Twitter’s Vine app.
Vine has a been a success for Twitter since its launch in January 2013, with the firm releasing an Android version this month.
The application has already overtaken Instagram when it comes to sharing on Twitter, though Instagram pulled full photo previews from Twitter in December.
The new development comes in addition to Facebook earlier this month adding hashtags and verified pages.
