Ghana’s former minister of justice and attorney general Joe Ghartey has failed to appear in court for a second time, further delaying the case concerning the sale of Ghana Telecom to Vodafone in 2008.
HumanIPO reported earlier this month Ghartey did not show up at the Accra Fast Track High Court on June 4 and had been summoned to appear again for a hearing yesterday (Monday, 17).
Ghartey had been served a notice through the Clerk of Parliament to appear, reports the Ghana News Agency.
The court action was brought by six members of the Convention People’s Party who are arguing the sale of the government’s 70 per cent stake in Ghana Telecom did not follow the correct processes and must be annulled.
At the time of the sale, Ghartey was minister of justice and attorney general. He is currently second deputy speaker of parliament.
Ghartey is next expected to appear in court on June 24.
