Chinese mobile giant Huawei kicked off the launch of its Ascend P6 smartphone with an event yesterday (Tuesday), aiming to boost consumer sales.
HumanIPO reported last month on the company’s revelation of the development of Ascend P6.
The world’s slimmest smartphone released in London, United Kingdom, runs a customised version of Google’s Android operating system.
Its five megapixel, front-facing camera simplifies self-portraits and social media network sharing.
Richard Yu, chief executive officer at Huawei Consumer Business Group, said: “The HUAWEI Ascend P6 is a star among smartphones with its industry-leading design, high-quality camera, and intuitive user interface, Huawei’s proprietary Emotion UI.”
The new smartphone evoked impressed reactions by attendees regarding its thickness of 6.18mm and a weight of 120g.
Ben Wood, industry analyst at CCS Insight, believes Huawei will gain more buyers if the price is affordable.
He tweeted:
Huawei P6 is darn thin. Black one looks like a iPhone squashed by a steamroller. Compromise is no LTE at this stage. pic.twitter.com/KKsQKguIEe

Less positive aspects, however, include non-compatibility with Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks.
Available in black, pink and white, Ascend P6 will be competing with Apple and Samsung devices.
Carolina Milanesi, research analyst at Gartner, was disappointed by the lack of originality in design since the phone features the same rounded metal design as Apple, Reuters reported.
Milanesi said it was evident Huawei is making effort to become a top brand by 2015.
