Chief operating officer of Etisalat Nigeria, Wael Ammar, has claimed the network has been the recipient of around half the subscribers who have switched networks in the six weeks since mobile number portability (MNP) was launched.
Ammar said the figure shows the network is the clear choice of Nigerian telecoms subscribers.
“I can tell you that Etisalat Nigeria has gained almost 50 per cent of the total figure of ported numbers so far. This is a clear indication that the Nigerian consumers have made their choice based on current realities on ground,” Ammar said.
Before MNP was launched in April, Etisalat had around 15 million subscribers in Nigeria.
Ammar added: “We set out early in our business to ensure that we developed products and services that suit the lifestyle of all our target customers.
“We have also ensured that we have a reliable network to accommodate existing and new customers and these efforts have been recognised by the NCC and other stakeholders in the telecoms industry.”
No official figures however have yet been published by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on the movement of consumers between the networks.
