DStv’s Bloomberg Television, the business channel, and music channel MK will no longer feature on the MultiChoice bouquet in South Africa.
Bloomberg Television will reportedly continue within television by merging with the recently renamed Business Day TV (formerly Summit TV). Bloomberg will no longer be a separate DStv channel by the end of June.
Bloomberg Television’s cancellation on MultiChoice will only take effect in South Africa and will continue to be available throughout the rest of the African countries.
“We are truly excited about Business Day TV becoming an extended platform for the strong, independent editorial content we already produce in Business Day, Financial Mail and BD Live every day, and the market-leading content offered by Bloomberg Television,” said Peter Bruce, editor in chief and publisher of BDFM.
MK will reportedly continue broadcasting as an online channel, which will serve as a cyber platform, which will stream music video. However, MK will still exist on DStv’s audio bouquet on channel 886.
MK was initially supplied to DStv by M-Net, the South African pay-TV broadcaster as a channel with the aim of serving the youth music market. MK will cease to exist as a DStv channel by the end of July.
“The MK audience is an online generation and in due course these free-spirited, on-the-go world citizens will be able to enjoy MK wherever and whenever they have internet access,” Channel24 quoted M-Net as saying.
“It’s mind blowing to think that internet users across the globe would be able to enjoy MK’s content and that you only need a smartphone, tablet or PC with an internet connection to be exposed to the great South African bands and musos that rock MK,” the company said.
