Royal Media Services (RMS) station Sulwe FM has donated KSh1.1 million (US$13,000) to Mugeti and Senandeki primary schools in Bungoma County.
The support was given to the schools by RMS owner SK Macharia who made the pledge during the last general election peace campaign roadshow at Manyanja market, reports Citizen TV.
The fund will be used to expand and build classrooms to accommodate the increasing population in the two schools.
Mugeti Primary School received Ksh800,000 (US$9,300), while Senandeki received Ksh300,000 (US$3,500) to help them improve their standard of teaching.
Addressing the audience during the presentation of the cheques, Bonface Nyongesa, head of Sulwe FM, said RMS will partner with schools in the county to promote the education standard and improve the quality of education.
“We want to ensure that the education level in this county goes higher and we produce the best brains in this nation,” he said.
The donation was one of the many corporate social responsibility activities that RMS engages to promote mutual relationship with their listeners.
Sulwe FM is a Luhya station owned by RMS broadcasting in Kibukusu dialect, a majority Luhya group in Western Kenya.
