Airtel restores unlimited internet

Airtel Kenya has reintroduced its unlimited data service, just three months after terminating the package.

However Airtel has made changes to the pricing and amount of data that can be downloaded through the unlimited offerings.

Daily unlimited will now cost KSh250 (US$2.90), weekly unlimited will cost KSh1,300 (US$15) while monthly unlimited will cost KSh3,500 (US$40.80).

Airtel has also set caps on the new service when downloading. Data that can be downloaded on the daily unlimited package is set at 3GB, 15GB on the weekly unlimited and 30GB on the monthly unlimited.

Users who hit the caps will have their speeds restricted to a maximum of 16KB per second.

After terminating the unlimited service, Airtel had introduced the “Blaze” bundles that offered 0.75GB, 4GB and 7GB and expired after a day, a week or a month respectively.

Telkom Kenya, part of the Orange group, is the only other provider in Kenya offering unlimited 3G internet, charging KSh990 (US$11.50) for weekly unlimited and KSh2,990 (US$33.80) for monthly unlimited, which are capped at 10GB and 20GB respectively. Speeds are then restricted to 32KB per second.
