The BlackBerry Q5 is available in South Africa through Vodacom from today (Thursday), on both prepaid and contract packages.
The latest device from the Canadian manufacturers runs the BB10 operating system and was launched in May.
BlackBerry has billed the Q5 as the natural successor to the Curve. It is specifically designed for the emerging markets, with BlackBerry still popular in Africa despite dropping off in Europe and the United States.
The new device is available at Vodacom World, the operator’s online store, and in participating outlets.
For prepaid customers it will cost ZAR4,999 (US$497), while a ZAR289 (US$29) per month contract package will give customers unlimited BBM text, 75 MB, 75 anytime minutes and 150 anytime SMSs.
