The Department of Transport has confirmed the minister Ben Martins is now considering the public submissions on the draft regulations for the controversial e-tolling project.
The 30 day submissions period expired this week, which means the South African Roads Agency Limited is one step closer to the launch of the e-tolling system.
Furthermore an announcement will be made regarding the start of the e-tolling system following president Jacob Zuma signing a separate bill into law.
“The date of the announcement and the launch will be determined by how soon the minister concludes his considerations,” Eye Witness News quoted Tiyani Rikhotso, spokesperson for the Department of Transport, as saying.
Furthermore Rikhotso said he is unable to provide details as to when the conclusion of the minister’s considerations will occur, nor does he know when the news will be released to the public.
The Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) conducted another drive slow motorcade on Johannesburg freeways in protest against e-tolling, on Monday.
Furthermore, COSATU, together with other civil society groups, called for an independent investigation into the procurement process, which led to the e-tolling system in Gauteng.
