The United Bank for Africa Kenya has partnered with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to allow Kenyans an opportunity to pay domestic taxes electronically.
The service will enable Kenyans to pay income tax, VAT, turnover tax and domestic excise tax where applicable electronically into KRA’s collection account in UBA.
The Integrated Tax Management System (iTax) is expected to improve convenience and accountability while reducing the time Kenyans spend filing returns.
KRA said the partnership between them and UBA Kenya is part of its effort to tap into technology so that that tax flows can be hastened.
“With this new system, taxpayers will be able to file returns electronically, make payments and enquire about their tax status online, while monitoring their accounts in real-time,” Alice Owuor, commissioner of domestic taxes said.
She also urged the public to use systems to submit their income tax returns on time saying UBA had demonstrated they are capable to conduct the online platform.
She said KRA will continue to embrace technology to streamline revenue collection.
Tunji Adeniyi, UBA Kenya managing director, said the system will make the lives of Kenyans easier through the efficiency of the system.
“There will be no need to queue for long hours in banking halls to make tax payments and file tax returns. This will save people precious time, especially considering the traffic challenges that we experience in Nairobi as well as the long distances that people in rural areas have to travel to get to a bank,” said Adeniyi.
