IRIS banking is set to be introduced in Ghana, according to plans by the International Computer System (ICS), International Business Machine (IBM) and Sunnet Systems.
With the system, customers can be identified using an eye, thus allowing banking transactions without the use of identification cards. Cash withdrawals could also be made from ATMs without ATM cards.
Speaking on the proposed technology introduction, Ghassan Sarsak, senior manager in charge of research and development at ICS, told journalists in Accra the banking technology is needed in Ghana to help tackle the high security threats.
“There is no way two persons can have one eye and as such no one other than the owner of an account can withdraw money from one’s account,” Sarsak said.
According to him, the IRIS banking technology is already being used in some Arab countries for high profile members of society.
