Goal achievement app Everest has launched on the Apple app store today for South African users, following its US launch at the beginning of 2013.

Everest enables users to set goals in their lives, and is hopes to combat the problems that cause aspiring achievers to lose track of these goals, namely lack of organisation and support.

Designed for iPhone use, the app also functions on iPads and will soon be released on the web and Android.

Speaking to HumanIPO, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) at Everest app, Francis Pedraza, said: “Enabling them to do the things they want to do would make everyone happier and the world would be a better place and many of them would like to make progress as they want to.”

Everest allows users to inspire one another, track and share progress with steps achieved and also learn from other users with similar goals.

“Everyone has things they want to do in life. Everest gives them the tools and community they need to achieve more of those things,” the founder said.

According to Pedraza, the app is a very unique design with no similar competitors.

As part of the release to South African users, an international update with suggestions will follow, allowing the community to accept or reject help from other users.

“Technology is like art. What we create is a statement about what we see missing in the world, and how we understand its problems,” Pedraza said.

“The most important human problem is that human potential is wasted because people don’t have the tools and community to realise their full potential.”

Social media sharing and a dating feature are also part of the new upgrades to follow.

Although not currently focusing on monetisation, Everest plans on connecting users with real events and opportunities to achieve goals, as well as features like dream-achieving gifts through the app for revenue.

Naming Nelson Mandela, Christiaan Barnard and Elon Musk as his primary inspirations, the co-founder is “excited to see the goals and dreams the rest of the people of South Africa will accomplish with Everest”.

Furthermore, South African users will be challenged to reach five goals, including a Kruger National Park safari, Sterkfontein fossil exploration and whale watching at Hermanus.
