Kopo Kopo partners with Steers and Debonairs

Kopo Kopo, an aggregator for Safaricom’s new Lipa Na M-Pesa service, has partnered with food chains Steers and Debonairs Pizza to allow the cashless payment platform to be used in their thirteen restaurants countrywide.

Steers and Debonairs Pizza said customers will be encouraged to purchase food using the platform at no additional charge.

“Cashless transactions are the way of the future and we’re absorbing all the fees for our customers to help get us there now. With Kopo Kopo and M-PESA we get safer transactions, better information, more control, and a chance to serve our customers at their convenience,” said Steers and Debonairs Pizza Kenya managing director Azam Samanani.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Steers and Debonairs Pizza on this initiative,” said Kopo Kopo chief executive officer (CEO) Dylan Higgins. “Their commitment to go cashless will reverberate, not only in Kenya, but across the hospitality and payments industries globally.”

HumanIPO reported last month on Safaricom’s launch of the service in a bid to encourage the use of cashless payment services as the primary tool of transactions for Kenyan merchants and consumers.

With 17 million subscribers using the M-Pesa service, Safaricom hopes to recruit at least 100,000 merchants by April 2014, targeting small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
